Dear Parents/Guardians: Volunteers are a vital part of the Loyola family and we count on the generosity of parents and family members! Loyola Catholic School’s policy is to screen all volunteers for their suitability to work with children in an educational setting and ask them to meet any and all requirements of the Diocese of Winona and the Diocese of New Ulm. Both Dioceses require all staff and volunteers at all parishes, schools and religious education programs to undergo a background check and to participate in a child safety program called VIRTUS. (VIRTUS has been required in New Ulm for several years and replaces the Safe and Sacred training previously required in Winona.) These requirements are not about not trusting you, and certainly not about making it difficult for you to volunteer at school. They are about being vigilant together about the safety and well-being of our children. VIRTUS is designed to teach us about the ways abusers gain access to children (manipulating not only children but families and communities as well), heighten our awareness of signs of abuse, and alert us to situations that are potentially dangerous for our children. We encourage ALL parents/guardians to participate in VIRTUS training and will offer training sessions periodically. Those who wish to volunteer at school or school events are required to participate. Virtus training sessions will be offered during the school year. Training dates can be found at www.virtusonline.org select Registration / View a List of Sessions / Winona, MN (Diocese). Please note: Participants must pre-register for Virtus Training- Please click here to view Virtus pre-registration information. The child protection background check, the Volunteer Code of Conduct form, and Virtus training certificate must be on file in the Business Office prior to volunteering.
