My teaching career began at Good Counsel Academy in 1977, where I was hired to teach a number of interesting classes, such as girls' phy. ed., intercultural studies, art history, and anything I might think to do with a class of 18 girls who only spoke Spanish. After two years there, I was hired by Loyola and became an English teacher who also coached track and cross country. I have been here since 1979, though I have turned the coaching over to one of my former student-athletes.
"I pray to the birds because I believe they carry the message of my heart upward. I pray to them because I believe in their existence, the way their songs begin and end each day- the invocations and benedictions of earth. I pray to the birds because they remind me of what I fear. And at the end of my prayers, they teach me how to listen."
